Archaeologists in the 1980’s had their professional image irreversibly changed thanks to the release of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. What archaeologists do and what the film shows archaeologists doing has created a schism between the day-to-day lives of archaeologists and public perception. It’s not that the public watched Indiana Jones and assumed it was accurate, but it nonetheless filtered into what they understood the field was like.
Think of a television show, movie, book, play, or other work of the humanities that is the “Indiana Jones” to your professional life and look for academic analysis or reviews of this work or this genre of work. How does the depiction of what you do radically depart from how you go about your day-to-day life? Why would it be important for fictional representations about your profession as nurse to still be honest or accurate in what you do?
