Issues on Healthcare Delivery
In recent years, the healthcare delivery system in the U.S. has been the subject of much debate. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 attempted to alleviate some of the U.S. healthcare delivery issues and has been partially successful. Despite the implementation of the ACA, the U.S. healthcare system remains riddled with problems.
As a health professional, one of your key responsibilities is to stay apprised of health issues and work as an agent of social change. In this Competency Assessment, you will be targeting one issue that faces the U.S. healthcare delivery system and advocating for change in the form of a letter to a legislator who serves constituents in your area.
To prepare for this Competency Assessment:
Research healthcare delivery issues in the U.S. and choose one to address.
Note: The healthcare delivery issue that you choose is not a health condition or disease. Healthcare delivery issues are those that deal with access to care, quality of care, barriers to care, and other issues of that nature.
Locate one (1) scholarly article that relates to this health issue.
Consider how this issue impacts different facets of healthcare delivery.
To complete this Competency Assessment:
Write a professional letter to a local, state, or federal legislator that explains why this is an issue and why it needs to be addressed. Template example attached .

Your letter should include the following:
Introduce yourself and give a brief explanation of why you are qualified to speak on issues of healthcare.
Identify the healthcare delivery issue and reference the article that you chose.
Explain how this issue impacts at least one (1) sector of the healthcare industry, preferably the one where you work or hope to work in the future.
Explain how past or existing social/cultural, economic, or political aspects impact the healthcare delivery issue.
Summarize your thoughts and call to action surrounding the issue.
Although not required, you are encouraged to send your letter out and begin to advocate for change!
