Biblical passages written many centuries apart provide a general overall agreement about God and the conditions of our world. Regarding PWD, there seems to be an attitude of exclusion from areas of worship and positions of worship leadership in the Old Testament. The attitude of Jesus toward the same community recorded in the New Testament appears to be open to greater inclusion. Reconciling the messages Scripture provides is an important task in developing a ministry to and with PWD.
Tasks
In around 200–300 words, post to the Discussion Area your responses to the following:
Discuss areas of continuity and discontinuity (if you see such) between the attitudes and approaches toward PWD in the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Explain whether the positions are reconcilable.
Suggest ways in which we should be guided by Scripture in these matters today.
Give your opinion and support from the Bible as well as course reading (or another scholarly book) and/or a scholarly article. Scholarly text is defined as coming from a publishing house, peer-reviewed journal, commentary, etc. What is not wanted is for a citation to be supported by an online blog or a personal website. Each post must demonstrate critical thinking and provide support from the readings or outside material including workplace experience.
