Choose a song you enjoy that has personal meaning to you. In your essay:
Describe the musical style and instrumentation – (e.g., a ballad, blues, rock n roll, is it singer and guitar, band, what instruments, when was it written? What is the song’s history? Who wrote it? Who performs it?)
Discuss the lyrics.
What story is conveyed?
What are the emotions and/or symbols?
Explain your personal connection or response to the song.
What is its meaning to you?
How do you respond to the music and performance?
If you were to share this song with others, what would you say about it?
Is it a song that you think can be applicable in the healthcare setting(s) / patients, and if so, how? (This is optional.)
NOTE: You can choose a song that is instrumental (no words) if you wish, as an alternative, and respond to all the above except the discussion of the lyrics.
