Lectio Divina Discussion
Week 7 Discussion:
This assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week on the basis of the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.
To support your work, use your course and text readings and also use the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in Turabian format.
Start reviewing and responding to at least two of your classmates’ posts and consider commenting on differences and similarities between how you gather facts and how your colleagues in class gather facts. Think about the language you use to comment constructively on other students’ posts.
Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Cite sources in your responses to other classmates. Complete your participation for this assignment by the end of the week.
Assignment Introduction and Context:
Choose one of the following two passages:
Psalm 63:1–11, on our longing for God (psalm written in the desert).
John 1:29–42, on the call of Jesus (a call that comes to each one of us daily).
Practice Lectio Divina and spend twenty to thirty minutes reading and re-reading the passage.
Share your response to the following to the Discussion Area:
In a few words, describe what word or phrase stood out for you.
In one sentence, tell why this word or phrase stands out for you.
In a maximum of three sentences, describe what God wants to do in your life as a result of having “chewed upon” that passage.
You may wish to privately journal regarding what God revealed to you, following this exercise. Journaling is non-graded.
In a minimum of 200 words, post to the Discussion Area your response to the following:
In what ways was this exercise meaningful to you? How might practicing Lectio Divina benefit your current or potential ministry constituents? Is this a practice that you would consider engaging in regularly? Why or why not?
