Assignment 2: Participant Observation & SBI Feedback Paper
Length: 3–4 pages, excluding title and reference pages.
For this assignment, you will reflect on your experiences as a participant observer of your group.
Your paper should include:
A completed observation form that you create and submit with your paper.
Your observations of how the group operated and its overall effectiveness.
How your team used the SBI Feedback Process and your experience with this approach.
An analysis of leadership within your group.
At least five specific examples of course concepts or principles demonstrated through your group’s interactions.
This 3–4 page paper asks you to act as a participant observer of your group co-creating an Implicit Bias Team Process paper — including a completed observation form — analyzing how the team operated, its use of the SBI feedback process, leadership, and at least five course principles seen in the dynamic. Observe concretely and connect to theory.
Key takeaways
- Act as a participant observer and complete an actual observation form.
- Analyze how the team operated and how effective it was.
- Evaluate the team’s use of the SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) feedback process.
- Assess the team’s leadership.
- Tie at least five course principles to specific team moments.
Create and complete the observation form
Build an observation form (what you watched for — participation, communication, conflict, decision-making) and complete it with real notes from your group’s sessions. Include it in the paper.
Analyze team operation and effectiveness
Discuss how the group functioned co-creating the Implicit Bias paper — roles, communication, cohesion, and how effective it was at reaching its goal.
The SBI feedback process
Explain how the team used the Situation-Behavior-Impact model to give feedback, and reflect on how it worked in a team setting — what helped, what was awkward.
Leadership and course principles
Assess who led and how. Then connect at least five course principles (e.g., psychological safety, group norms, conflict styles, emotional intelligence, team development stages) to specific observed moments.
Format
3–4 pages, integrate scholarly sources with APA citations including page numbers.
