Discussion Board 07 – Browning’s My Last Duchess
The dramatic monologue allows us an insight into the mind frame of the narrator often a persona in the poem. As I’ve already discussed in the lecture, we can get a clear picture of the Duke from what he says about his late wife. But, what kind of picture can we create about the Duchess based on what the Duke says, taking into consideration that he may be an unreliable narrator. Using specific evidence of the poem argue the true character of the Duchess. Consider her traits, motivation for her actions, and her stereotypical features of someone in her position.
