“The Knight’s Tale” is similar to the stories we have read earlier in this class as it gives thrilling depictions of knights, chivalry, and a view into medieval romance. It is also similar to the prior stories because it has big guys with swords, who epitomize the medieval ideals of strength, bravery, and honor. It is clear to see that these concepts have evolved from their Anglo-Saxon origins. “The Knight’s Tale” presents a portrayal of women that is similar to what we have seen in early British literature. Emily plays a major role in the story as she is the sole reason the two knights are fighting one another, but she only really acts as an object of desire and has no real say in who she marries. For most of the story, she has no idea who the two knights are, despite the fact that they are fighting for her hand in marriage.
