In Winthrop’s sermon he said to his congregation on the ship that they would be “a city set on a hill.” Presidents Kennedy and Reagan repeated his famous words and so have many, many others. What did Winthrop actually mean by this? The meaning is pretty clear from the text. (This question is not one for speculation – the answer is there.) You will need to read carefully. What warning went along with this statement in his sermon?
2. A definition of metaphysical poetry and copy and paste it into your post with a full citation, then look again at Edward Taylor’s poetry and discuss one of the metaphysical elements in his work. Give an example and explain. You may read other examples of his poetry to find examples. Do not just copy from a website for your analysis although you may copy the definition. Make sure you understand the words in your definition. (For example, in speaking of poetry a conceit has nothing to do with an exceptionally vain person. You probably know that already.)
