INSTRUCTIONS
Students are to engage in an out of classroom activity with a population that is different than the one with which you primarily identify. Students benefit from selecting an activity that results in experiencing the perspective of another population and in which students do something that they would not ordinarily do or something out of their comfort zone. Some examples of activities are: community events, religious ceremonies, cultural function etc.
After reading the instructions, answer the following questions :
1. Describe the activity, including the date, time and location of the activity and if someone will be attending the activity with you.
2. Identify the reason(s) for wanting to attend this activity.
3. What do I hope to learn?
4. How will this activity enhance my skills as a Community Development practitioner?
5. Describe my initial assumptions/thoughts/stereotypes about the population priorto engaging in this activity. Try to suspend the urge to be “politically correct” ornot reveal your biases! Please be honest.
