Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in areas “currently in rebellion against the United States,” meaning it freed slaves in areas the U.S. Army did not occupy or have control over and freed no slaves in the South that were already occupied by the U.S. military. It freed no slaves.
