Sociocultural Theory,,,,,,,,
Lev Vgotsky looked at cognitive development similarly to Piaget, but he took his beliefs a few steps further. Vgotsky believed that a young child’s interactions with their environment, their social interactions, and hands-on learning promoted cognitive development. Vgtosky’s theory of early childhood development is known as the Sociocultural Theory.
The most important concept of the Sociocultural Theory is the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). When a task is too easy, the child can learn it independently. When a task is too difficult, the child is not engaged or interested. ZPD represents the range of tasks that a child can do or learn with the help of another. The ideal learning experience for a child occurs in the Zone of Proximal Development. Learning in the ZPD occurs best when scaffolding is used.
