Assessment Description

Schools are legally obligated to ensure that ELLs are provided with programs or services that support English language proficiency (ELP) and content knowledge. The use of valid and reliable ELP assessments to monitor progress is not only required but so is the meaningful communication of pertinent information related to programming and services. Communicating with ELL families is more than just a good practice for fostering family involvement. It actually involves legal obligations and rights.

Imagine it is the beginning of the school year and the majority of the students in your classroom are ELLs. You decide to present information to your ELL families explaining assessments and their purposes, parental and guardian rights in connection to assessments, and how they can support their students on them.
