Introduction
Distance learning has become increasingly popular over the past few years since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. With the implementation of technology, it has become easier for individuals to earn degrees and pursue their education from the comfort of their homes. These admirable advances have brought about change in everyday life as well as in education today. With technology, individuals can meet the different educational needs of different students. Distance learning in some way reduces the need for face-to-face instruction and participation in an in-person class. It’s a modern approach that brings education in a different way, eliminating the need for students and teachers to meet in the same location. The whole world has identified the need for education, and it is distance education becoming a success. Although there are downsides to this type of education, the advantages and benefits they bring to prove it’s actually beneficial are no less. Distance learning is not a new concept, but it has gained momentum in recent times. In this essay, I will argue that distance learning is the future of education.
Background
Distance learning has been around for centuries, dating back to the early 1700s. Correspondence courses were the earliest forms of distance learning, where students would receive their course material through mail and submit their assignments through the same means. The introduction of radio and television in the 20th century paved the way for more interactive and engaging distance learning. Today, with the internet and digital technology, the potential for distance learning has become limitless. There is a category of youth who get into a business kind of life and still need education while there is an elderly group that due to varying needs decide to go back to college. With such needs in mind, distance learning is an opportunity to develop a more educated global society. To further explain Distance Learning and Traditional Secondary Education, there are major differences between these two learning models. The following discussions will therefore include the consideration and analysis of each issue between the two of them. First, I will agure about the Classroom Setup, presentation opportunity and how is it work as the Traditional System. Secondly, the delivery of distance education will be discussed. Those will be the most popular information and things related to this learning method. Next, the benefit of distance learning and how it is accessibility, freedom of choice as well as saving money and time will be the third part in this paper. The benefits here can also include energy savings, flexibility aspect, self pacing, convenience, theme selection, comfort and easy access to information. In the fourth part also the last, there will be another important argument, which is how challenges of distance learning can be. Here it will refer to things including costs, reduced motivation, over-reliance on technology, inappropriate learning environments, lack of opportunities, and teacher absenteeism. Distance education is a good opportunity for people who may have a busy and complicated lifestyle. Although this discussion will shed light on the benefits that distance learning poses based on research, these learning methods have been concluded that it is feasible for everyone at this time.
