Patients continue to be stigmatized, whether by un-conscious or conscious bias, based on their disease-specific diagnosis (i.e. HIV) and/or based on a non-health related background (i.e. sexual orientation, gender identity, poverty etc.) leading to health inequities. Despite current societal and educational trends in treating patients with equity and respect, you notice some of your fellow nursing colleagues continue to display stigma-related behaviors in providing patient centered-care. Explain (1) ethical and (1) unethical approach the nurse can take in this situation. Make sure each response is supported by a credible reference.
