Introduction

For this assignment, you will have the opportunity to deconstruct three academic articles using the MEAL (Main Idea, Evidence, Analysis, and Linking) plan, which is an extension of what you completed for the discussion this week. The MEAL plan is essentially an effective strategy for deconstructing paragraphs to become more familiar with their composition. It is also an effective strategy for students to employ in the review of research articles. Applying the MEAL plan will allow you to become more familiar with how to review and understand complex paragraphs within academic articles, which will be very important to you when completing the final project in Week 7.

Activity Instructions

To begin this assignment, review the MEAL Plan Overview resource and address the following question:

  1. Complete MEAL Plan Table Template using three new academic articles that focus on a possible solution to your community issue and submit for your instructor for review. Important note: For this exercise, you don’t need to apply the MEAL plan to each paragraph of the selected articles but instead, review each article as a whole and complete the table based on your observations of the entire article.

At the end of your submission, include a brief Design Statement explaining the process and tools you used to develop your work. Your statement should be about a paragraph or so, in your own words (rather than formally written), and unique to this assignment.

Why are we asking for this? Find out more about Design Statements.
