The hearsay rule is a principle in the law of evidence that excludes secondhand statements made outside of the courtroom from being presented as evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted. The reason for this rule is to ensure the reliability of evidence by giving both sides the opportunity to cross-examine the person who actually made the statement. We also see that there are exceptions to the hearsay rule including admissions and confessions. Class- do dying declarations apply here? Why did the hearsay rule come about?
