Brain sciences make advances in our understanding of how the human brain functions. Many educators are looking to findings from the neurosciences to inform classroom teaching methodologies. In the Read: A Model for Bridging the Gap Between Neuroscience and Education article in this module’s Learn section, Tommerdahl (2010) proposes a model of five levels that describe different types of knowledge that must all contribute to new teaching methodologies. These include the levels of neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, educational theory and testing, and the classroom. In light of the information in Tommerdhal’s (2010) article and Chapter 5 of the course textbook, consider how neurosciences play a role in education and the complex relationships between the brain sciences and proven teaching methods.
