Chapter 5. The Art Of Ancient Greece
This week we will be looking at art work from the Ancient Greece, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea that had trade relation ships with the Near East, Ancient Egypt, the Cyclades and nations/tribes in the western Mediterranean Sea. Another words these people where contemporaries, for example we saw their influence represented as sculptures of Gods when we looked at the religions of ancient Egypt.
The Greeks were prodigious writers and story tellers. We still use there stories today for movies and in theater, as in the “Greek Tragedy”. They invented dramatic creation myths that include relationships between the Gods and humans. They established the role of the Hero or Nike, and introduce the concept of good and evil in their mythologies. This currently translates to super heroes.
Most important the Greeks established the idea of Democracy, although it was narrow and limited to male citizens in ancient Greece.
