In “How Not to Die in America,” Molly Osberg takes a personal experience (illness) and explores what it demonstrates about a larger social problem (access and/or lack of access to health care).
Choose a personal experience and wrie an essay that explores what that experience reveals about a larger social issue. Your experience can be significant and serious like Osberg’s brush with a life-threatening disease or more minor. Your experience does not necessarily need to be negative.
Here are a few examples of types of experiences that relate to larger social issues:
Experiences with gender roles or gender divisions
Experiences in education (positive or negative)
Experiences with housing
Health care experiences
Experiences at work
Experiences of discrimination
Experiences of immigration
Do some research on your topic, and include two citations from your research. Use at least two They Say/I Say templates from Parts 2 or 3.
