Good day everyone,
Glasscubes.com defines virtual communication as "the use of digital tools such as emails, text messages, chats and video conferences to relay information between people who are not physically face to face."
Effective Virtual Communication
Usage of emails with an authorized HP distributor to understand what specs is needed from the devices and what price range in order to provide a competitive quotation to our client. We are here in Saint Lucia and we communicated with this company in Miami and this was done seamlessly.
Factors contributing to effectiveness:
· We had all necessary information.
· We were speaking to the correct representative based upon our needs and geographical location.
Ineffective Virtual Communication
A client wanted to set up a meeting to explain a printer problem. After already showing up late to the meeting we had to walk them through how to turn the machine on. It took about 2 hours on the call but to no avail. We still had to send the technician to the location in person to diagnose the matter and have it resolved.
Factors contributing to ineffectiveness:
· Unprepared customer.
· Lack of information
For good virtual communication you should:
Have all necessary information.
Ensure you are speaking to the right person.
Make your reason for communication as clear as possible.

Happy Wednesday Class-
My job uses virtual communications daily. We have Microsoft TEAM calls at 8:30pm and 4:00pm daily with other regional leaderships and counties. These meetings allow placement to see what children are still in need of placement for the day. What allows this class to move effectively and efficiently is because everyone is prepared. According to Axtell (2016), having a clear agenda of the meeting and understanding help virtual meetings run smoother. My job also uses Microsoft TEAMs to communicate with providers and secure placements. During these meetings we use the hand-raise tool. This allows the presenter to see that someone has a question without interruption. According to Edmondson (2020), the hand-raise function, “helps people signal that they want to speak aloud”.
An ineffective virtual communication I have had was being called into an emergency meeting regarding one of my children. I was not prepared and taken aback during the meeting due to not knowing it was occurring. This meeting also did not go well because the person hosting the meeting was not clear about the meeting’s objective.
Based on my experiences I would recommend the following three practices for effective virtual communication:
1. Design questions that are specific and challenging
2. Collaborate to address the problem!
3. Create an effective agenda!
4. Utilize the functions the system provides such as the “raising hand”
