Classroom management plays a crucial role in your success as a teacher, and it may also be one of your greatest challenges. To create an effective learning environment, it is important to understand various classroom management models and theories while also building strong relationships with your students to meet their unique learning needs.
In Week 1, you began defining your classroom management philosophy, which set the foundation for your beliefs about behavior and discipline. For this week’s assessment, you will compare different classroom management models and begin to establish classroom expectations and procedures, while factoring in potential student diversities (i.e., cultural backgrounds, experiences, language, developmental levels, and skills).
Assessment Deliverable
Create a 12- to 15-slide presentation in which you compare classroom management models and describe your expectations for classroom routines and procedures. Address the following in your presentation:
Classroom Management Models
Select at least 2 different classroom management models for comparison.
For each model, describe the following:
The theory or theorist associated with it
How it functions in the classroom
How it promotes appropriate behavior and a positive learning environment
Routines and Procedures
Select a middle or high school grade level and identify at least 5 routines or procedures that you may need to establish, monitor, and communicate with students to ensure your classroom runs smoothly. For example, entering and exiting the classroom, turning in assignments, going to the restroom, cell phones, etc.
For each routine or procedure, describe the following:
The steps for completing it and the expectations of students as they complete it in the classroom
The consequences incurred if students do not follow the steps and meet expectations
How you will teach and communicate the expectations of the routine or procedure to students
Explain how students’ diverse cultural backgrounds, personal experiences, language proficiencies, developmental levels, and skills influenced your identification of routines and procedures.
Analysis of Routines and Procedures
From your identified routines or procedures, select 2 that you feel are most important to an effective learning environment for all students and explain the following for each:
Why it is critical to an effective learning environment
Which classroom management model(s) it may follow or align with
How you considered students’ diversity (e.g., language, abilities, and skills) when creating and communicating expectations
Your legal and ethical responsibilities related to establishing, monitoring, and communicating the routine or procedure
Include the following formatting components in your presentation:
Comprehensive speaker notes for your slides or recorded voiceover in your presentation
Graphics or images to make it visually appealing
A title slide
A references slide for any sources and/or images cited
