Discuss the strategic role of HR professionals. How can HR strategies be aligned with business goals?
Reflect on your experiences with HR departments that have played a strategic role in your organization. How have HR strategies been aligned with business goals in your workplace or internships? Share examples of successful HR initiatives that have contributed to achieving organizational objectives. What strategies were used to ensure that HR practices supported the overall business strategy?
DQ 6 (stairs) The goal of this Discussion is to explore the life and music of a specific composer from the 20th or 21st century.
Complete both parts:
Many composers kept diaries during their lives. Choose a composer from the twentieth (or twenty-first) century and an important event from that composer’s life. Consider how this event relates to the music the composer wrote. Write a diary entry related to that event in 1st person voice, as if the composer wrote it (Your choice should not be in the Jazz, blues, pop, rock, rap, or any popular music genres. Not sure? Search .). Provide a link to a sound file or YouTube video of the composer’s music, to help classmates become more familiar with this individual’s work. In the subject line for your post, include the composer’s name. List any websites or other sources you used to write your post at the bottom of the post.
What is your personal reaction/response to this composer and/or the music we have studied so far in class? How does learning about music apply to your life and/or past experiences?

This week, we discussed a number of styles that emerged between the 15th and 18th Century. For this discussion, you will discuss one style based on the first letter of your last name for your initial post.
Renaissance (Last Name A-H): Select one work of art from the module resources or from Google Art and Culture that was created in Europe during the Renaissance. What characteristics of the time period do you notice in the work of art? What do you think this work of art tells us about the culture in which it was created? What values or ideas from the Ancient Greek or Roman cultures do you recognize?

Using your data from the Discussion from Week 2, go back and perform a linear regression. Find the equation of the linear equation that best fits your data and calculate the correlation coefficient (R). How does this compare to your analysis in week 2?
Data Set 01
Weights (lbs.): 112.9925, 136.4873, 153.0269, 142.3354, 144.2971, 123.3024, 141.4947, 136.4623, 112.3723, 120.6672, 127.4516, 114.143, 125.6107, 122.4618, 116.0866, 139.9975, 129.5023, 142.9733, 137.9025, 124.0449 (n = 20).
Mean calculation
Sum = 2 603.6123
Mean = 2 603.6123 ÷ 20 = 130.18 lbs.
Median calculation
Ordered list midpoint = average of 10th and 11th values = (127.4516 + 129.5023) ÷ 2 = 128.48 lbs.
Mode
All values unique → no mode.
Mean > median means that the distribution is mildly positively skewed because of some heavy observations. The mean utilizes all values, the median utilizes only ranking, and the mode utilizes frequencies (Rakrak, 2025).
Scatter diagram between height and weight gives a positive relationship, but scatterly linear relationship; the taller boys have higher weight, but there is much residual variation in the diagram. The simulated data have lower correlation than actual anthropometric data of adolescents.

How does emotional intelligence contribute to leadership effectiveness in diverse organizational settings?
This discussion asks you to explain the strategic role of HR and show how HR strategy can be aligned with business goals, using real examples. The strongest posts treat HR as a driver of business results, not a back-office function. Here’s how to build it.
Key takeaways
- Position HR as a strategic business partner, not just hiring and payroll.
- Alignment means HR goals flow directly from business goals (growth, cost, quality, retention).
- Use real examples where an HR initiative produced a measurable business result.
- Name the mechanisms: workforce planning, talent management, analytics, and change management.
- Ground it in a model — Ulrich’s HR business-partner framework works well.
Explain the strategic role
Strategic HR means aligning people practices with where the business is going: forecasting the talent the strategy needs, building capability, and shaping culture and change. Contrast it with purely administrative HR to make the shift clear.
How to align HR with business goals
Show the line of sight: a business goal (say, expand into a new market) drives an HR goal (hire and develop the right team there), which drives HR practices (recruiting, training, incentives). Mention tools — workforce planning, competency frameworks, performance systems, and HR analytics that prove impact.
Use a concrete example
Draw on a workplace or internship: an onboarding redesign that cut early turnover, or a leadership program that filled a succession gap. Describe the initiative, how it was communicated to leadership, and the result in business terms (cost saved, time-to-productivity, retention).
If your version also asks for a composer diary entry
Some copies of this prompt include a separate music task (write a first-person diary entry for a 20th/21st-century classical composer around a key life event, with a source link). If so, pick a composer such as Shostakovich or Britten, choose a documented event, and write the entry in their voice — then connect the event to the music they wrote. Keep it clearly separate from the HR answer.
Finish strong
Close with the skills that earn HR a strategic seat — business acumen, data literacy, and influence — and cite an HR source (Ulrich) to anchor your points.
