For this week’s application, do some research to determine the relative abundance of various kinds of living organisms on earth. Include an analysis of the proportion of prokaryotic to eukaryotic organisms in addition to an evaluation of the numbers of kinds of the more familiar eukaryotic types such as kinds of plants and kinds of animals? Include both microscopic (i.e., can’t see without a microscope) vs. macroscopic (i.e., large enough to see without a microscope)? Bacteria vs. Fungi, vs. Plants, vs. Animals? Evaluate the relative abundance of these creatures by number and/or biomass. Feel free to look at subdivisions within those larger categories, e.g., different kinds of plants and different kinds of animals. The idea here is to get an understanding of which kinds of living organisms are most significant in our Earth Ecosystem. For information on what to submit and how to submit it, refer to the instructions in week 1 Application and in the syllabus.
