Grant Assignment For this assignment, you are to assume the role of grant writer for a police department. I will give you three problems that the chief would like you to find grants to help solve. Your task is to submit a 500-word double-spaced summary of each grant that you locate, understanding the profound impact these grants can have on our city. Formatting (Use the Bolded Headings) Grant: (Title of Grant) This is the official title and grant number. You can copy and paste them as your header (NOTE: This does not count as part of the 500). Summary This is to be your 500-word summary. Note: Your summary is to be in your own words; do not copy and paste from within the grant. – Things to include o Why was this grant chosen and/or why is it the best to address the issue? o Who is entitled to apply for the grant? ▪ Note: make sure our city department can. If it can’t, it should not be included – I will deduct 1 point from the 5 available if you include a grant we cannot apply for. o If the grant has multiple programs being funded, include the one we will apply for and why. o How much money is available, and over what timeframe must the grant be carried out and completed? o What are the mandates/requirements for data collection, program assessment, and reporting? o You can also include any other points you feel are important. Very Important Note: You may encounter grants with past due dates. I do not care about due dates; if you can download and/or read the grant and complete the Summary section, that is all that is needed. For this assignment, confine your grant search to Grants.gov. Use this link: https://www.grants.gov/search-grants Issues: 1. Violent Crime (can be gang-related, hate crimes, domestic violence, etc. Any grant you think will help with violent crime). 2. Drug Prevention or Drug Enforcement (can be youth drug prevention programs, adult prevention, enhanced enforcement, Fentanyl related, or any other drug that you find a good grant for) 3. YOUR CHOICE: Pick a topic other than the two I listed that you think is essential and find a grant to address it (as part of your 500-word narrative, include a little on why you think it is essential). o Important note: you have complete control over this one. I do not care what topic you choose. It does NOT have to be crime-related (can be education, housing, etc. – anything)
