How has the client’s current health status and physical condition impacted on their life and on their wellbeing? Fabian is a residential client at Healthy Lives. He is 76. Almost 10 years ago he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is now free of cancer; however, due to the treatment and other ongoing health issues he has been unable to care for himself and decided that it was time to move into a residential facility. Fabian’s partner Neal was his main support throughout his cancer diagnosis. Neal resides at another aged care facility (close to his own relatives but also not too far from Fabian) as he was diagnosed with dementia several years ago. The reason Fabian and Neal are not in the same facility is due to finances – Neal’s brothers contributed towards the cost of care and Neal’s daughter (from his marriage in his early 20s) has also contributed. Fabian does not have the finances to afford the same facility and while he is close to Neal’s family, they are already stretched thin supporting their father and brother. Fabian has no family in Australia other than Neal and his own family. Neal’s brothers and daughter (and her family)
