Industrialization continues to be a topic of writing in the Victorian period. In “Captains of Industry,” Thomas Carlyle discusses the role of the leaders of industry and what should be done to improve conditions for workers. However, Elizabeth Barrett Browning makes an appeal to these same individuals on behalf of the child labor force. Read both works in our reading module. In a 300-600 word mini-essay, discuss industry as it is portrayed in both works and how children are used to make an argument for better working conditions. I do not want outside sources for this assignment. Simply formulate an analysis based on lectures in the class and support your analysis with specific quotes from each text (Carlyle and Browning).
Journals are low risk evaluations of your analytical essay writing skills. I will grade on content, organization, use of evidence from the readings, and MLA format. If grammar distracts from comprehension, then you will be deducted points for grammar. However, it will not be the focus of my grading.
You will need to type your analytical journal essay in a Word document in correct MLA format
