Purpose
The purpose of this discussion is to introduce you to the evolution, benefits, and challenges of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) in modern healthcare. You will begin to articulate the significance of EHRs in improving patient care, safety, and operational efficiency while exploring the transition from paper-based to digital records.InstructionsPart 1: Initial Post (Due by Day 3)
Post a substantive response of 400–500 words that addresses all of the following:
Define Electronic Health Record (EHR) in your own words.
Discuss the key differences between paper-based health records and Electronic Health Records.
Describe one major historical milestone in the development and adoption of EHRs (e.g., the passage of the HITECH Act, the IOM report “To Err is Human,” or the establishment of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology – ONC). Explain its impact on healthcare.
Share your perspective: What do you believe is the most significant benefit and the biggest challenge of implementing EHRs in healthcare organizations today?
Support your post with a minimum of two scholarly references (one must be from the assigned Week 1 readings, and one may be from a credible external source such as HIMSS, ONC, or a peer-reviewed journal).
