Hi Folks – this week in CCW you read about meter, tempo, and rhythm, as well as line breaks and poetic action. Please answer the following by 2 pm Monday.
–Pick two of the poems from this week (that you hopefully read aloud) and discuss what you notice about meter, tempo and rhythm – to your own ear. How is the music established? There is no right or answer here – how we hear a poem is in part subjective. But line breaks, stanzas, and the arrangement of words can help dictate music in a fairly unambiguous manner.
–Looking at the other two poems (that you didn’t discuss above), tell us how you think the poems evolve on the level of idea or emotion or in any other way – we’re thinking here about poetic action from CCW. The two poems by Fallis and Carson are “list poems” – do they evolve somehow? It might be tougher to say for those two, but I think they do!
