The purpose of an analysis paragraph is to help you build the skills you need to create critical paragraphs, which provide the foundation for an analytical essay. There is a handout on writing an analysis paragraph in the Supplemental Materials folder (see the Start Here section of the course).
You will later be developing this paragraph into a full-length essay.
In your paragraph, I want you to choose an element from the poem that you would like to do 4n in-depth analysis over. This can be symbolism, character development, the importance of the setting, a theme that stood out to you, etc (this one: “Staking a Claim” https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/57956/staking-a-claim). Once you have chosen what you would like to focus on, your paragraph needs to meet the following criteria:
Easily identifiable thesis;
Supporting evidence;
twelve sentences;
Academic language, 3rd person;
Demonstration of critical thinking.
