Positive change has been slowly happening in children’s literature where books for children have recently become more diverse. Since the majority of children’s books do not feature people of color, educators and parents must be intentional about finding and including books that feature positive and authentic representations of characters from multiple cultures.
After reading the assigned articles about culturally relevant reading instruction and tips for selecting multicultural books, you will choose a culturally authentic multicultural children’s book. You will then write an essay on why the book is an example of good multi-cultural literature and how it can help children gain a greater appreciation of themselves and others.
