We are all guilty of confirmation bias; it is human nature. We must learn the skill of metacognition, which is thinking about your thinking as objectively as possible in order to grow intellectually.
For this discussion:
- Describe a situation where you or someone you know has demonstrated confirmation bias.
- What was the evidence that was being ignored in that case?
- Share how your own biases might have impacted the situation you chose for your topic.
- Based on what you have learned so far, what are two ways that you can minimize the effect of bias in your studies?
- Explain why understanding and combatting confirmation bias matters in a graduate studies situation.
