Although most of the food grown and produced in the U.S. is considered safe, there are always new challenges to food safety. Consider for example, that changes in food production and supply, including the importation of food products from other countries has been enhanced in the past 10 years (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.). Furthermore, changes to the environment such as drought or water scarcity has severe impacts into the availability of and timeliness with which certain food products can be used. Additionally, new emerging bacteria, toxins, antimicrobial resistance, as well as mutations that could emerge from the use of chemicals or pesticides could present challenges in ensuring the safety of our food (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, n.d.).
For this Discussion in Week 3, your instructor will assign a journal article that you will critique. You will address a series of prompts to assist in your critique of the journal article provided. In Week 4, you will research an additional journal article related to the journal article provided in Week 3 and will conduct a similar journal article critique.
Your response must include the following:
Describe the public health significance of the study. Discuss whether the impact is local or global and what important public health gap might be filled by this article. Be specific.
Critique the methodology. Support your analysis of how effective this methodology was and what might have been done differently to be more effective.
Interpret the results in your own words and explain whether you agree or disagree with the author’s interpretation. Be specific.
Appraise whether the findings are actionable and if so, describe at least one action item.
