Sally is a 10 year old patient who, while riding her bicycle, is struck by a car. She has life threatening internal injuries that if not attended to by immediate surgery are more than likely to result in her death. She is brought to the hospital by ambulance, it is not known where her parents are. The surgeon must wait until the parents are found and both parents consent to the surgery.
