“She Dwelt among the Untrodden Ways” by William Wordsworth perfectly captures the feeling of recognizing the true worth of a hidden gem. He describes a woman, Lucy, that was isolated from crowds and through his language, highlights her beauty and gives well-deserved praise. The writer uses imagery to describe the scenery and make the reader feel like they are being taken to the place where Lucy had lived. Symbolism is used to describe Lucy’s unrecognized beauty, creating an almost mysterious aura surrounding this woman who was hidden and unloved for so long. Wordsworth’s poem demonstrates how people can go their whole lives without being in the spotlight and knowing very few people, but still be recognized and appreciated after death. Although Lucy knew very few people, her memorable existence had left a big impact on the speaker.
