This week we’re able to learn more details about ERC, as Woodward introduces more psychological studies of causation. So we’ll have a better picture of what ERC is and how it helps us understand causal cognition. It is a long reading but it is not too abstract.
In this week’s discussion please address the following questions:
What is the distinction between the subject’s learning a causal relation and the subject’s representing such relation as a causal relation? What features does Woodward like to have in a representation of causation, for adult humans?
Woodward introduces some ERC studies, such as forward blocking, discounting, and backward blocking. Do you find these studies interesting? Do you think such studies help us better understand causation?
