Week 6 – Guided Freewriting for the Argumentative Essay

As we start our second essay, let’s return to the prewriting process we used in Week 1.
For this week, find a quiet place and write freely about the first prompt, then write on the second prompt, and finish the last prompt. It is important to know your purpose in writing any assignment, so let’s consider it here. Are you writing your argumentative essay to persuade your readers to agree with you or to persuade your readers to work with you to solve a problem? The lecture defined logos as facts, ethos as credibility, and pathos as emotion. We want to employ a balanced approach as we persuade rather than relying on just one of these methods. Tackle each of these classical forms of persuasion as they relate to your topic and give an example of how you could use each in your argumentative essay.
