Week 6 – Guided Freewriting for the Argumentative Essay

As we start our second essay, let’s return to the prewriting process we used in Week 1.
For this week, find a quiet place and write freely about the first prompt, then write on the second prompt, and finish the last prompt. You should use this template, so download and save it, type in it, save it, and then upload it to Canvas. Be sure to download and freewriting directly into this template. You will submit this document for your assignment this week.

Prompt 2:
It is important to know your purpose in writing any assignment, so let’s consider it here. Are you writing your argumentative essay to persuade your readers to agree with you or to persuade your readers to work with you to solve a problem? If you are writing to persuade, jot down some notes about the main points you would like to have your reader agree to. If you are writing to solve a problem, be specific about both the problem and the solution for which you will advocate.

Prompt 3:
The lecture defined logos as facts, ethos as credibility, and pathos as emotion. We want to employ a balanced approach as we persuade rather than relying on just one of these methods. Tackle each of these classical forms of persuasion as they relate to your topic and give an example of how you could use each in your argumentative essay.
