Writing Prompt:
Write a short narrative about a film that had an impact on you. For example: Look at the list of your favorite films (You may also choose a different one) – which one would you pick to tell a little story about? Go for a film that had an emotional impact – it will make writing about it easier! Also, consider some of these questions: Where were you when you watched it? How old were you? Who did you watch it with? What makes this film so memorable? Did it teach you something? What reactions or feelings did you have during the film? Why is this film one of your favorites? Were the circumstances or the reason why you watched this film unusual or special? What made the film experience special?
What is a “narrative”?
When you write a narrative, you are telling a story – in this case, about an event in your life. The goal is to engage the reader by using imagery, detail, dialogue, and voice. And, of course, you are using the first-person narrator (“I”).
Show voice! But what is “voice”?
Simply put, the quality that makes your writing unique. This is a CREATIVE writing assignment – a formal essay with, a factual writing style is NOT what you are going for! In other words, describe how you felt, what you saw, what you thought, and choose words that reflect your experience and how you felt!
