(1) Explain the James-Lange theory of emotion. How did this differ from the commonly held
belief regarding emotions? Discuss one of the studies that examined the two-factor
theory of emotion (Schachter & Singer, 1962 or Dutton and Aron,1974). Describe the
study and explain how it provides empirical evidence to support the James-Lange theory
of emotion.
(2) Explain/discuss the modified three stage processing model of human memory. Explain
the different parts of the memory system (sensory information storage, short-term
memory and long-term memory) and how information moves from one part of our
memory system to another. Be sure to mention why this is “modified” from the original
three stage processing model of human memory.
(3) Discuss some of the problems with punishment as it relates to learning theory. Does it
work? How and why? And why are certain behaviors more easily learned than others?
